Punakha festival is held right after Punakha Drubchen with the unfurling of Thongdrel (a large tapestry) of Guru Rinpoche. Thousands of locals gather in their best colourful costume to spend time with their friends and families. It is also believed that by attending a festival like this, one can gain merits for life and wash all sins.
